Hi Sangeetha,
Which Payroll Exam do you mean? I did the Level 3 Diploma in Payroll Management exam and I did the training on Home Learning College.I am awaiting my results now.

I used The Distance Learning Partnership. Good materials taking you through both manual and Sage Instant Payroll and a pass with Distinction at the end.

A couple of years ago I brought a course from Ideal schools didn't understand it so left it until last year and dug it out and still didn't understand it! Rather than buy another course with my preferred training provider (they didn't do payroll when I wanted to do it) I brought some sage payroll study books off ebay and had no problems understanding them and passed the exam last year. I guess it may depend on your previous experience as the sage study books only covers how to do payroll on sage and also a little bit manually and there is nothing about legislation but there's always the HMRC website and they provide CD's to work it manually.

I used the Sage Self Study Payroll workbooks.  It gave me a copy of the software, and worked through the various aspects of payroll.  Passed first time, so I guess it works!

If cost is an issue, the best material is the HMRC provided Payroll manuals, e.g. Day to Day Payroll.  At least you know its accurate Wink!

For Level III Bookkeeping, I would advise getting "Business Accounts" by David Cox (Osborne Books).  It's comprehensive, and has exercises at the end of each chapter.  It means you are on your own with the studying, i.e. no tutor, but it is very cost effective.

An alternative, if you need a more structured course-style approach, and you want to keep the costs down, is to look at the NEC course Advanced Bookkeeping.  You can keep the costs down by using Tesco Clubcard deal points to purchase the course.

Hope that helps Laughing

Hi there
I'm using Ideal Schools distance learning study materials for my Payroll Diploma but I'm not finding them very detailed...I used Kaplan for all my Bookeeping exams and found them really good. I also downloaded the exams from the ICB website and worked through the answers.
