Hi All

I have been using the Sage CIS Module and found it very easy to use. The only problem I have just come against is a Customer who has deducted CIS due to the fact that my client is also a subcontractor.

My Client can claim the 20% the customer has deducted on his monthly CIS return but I cannot seem to find a way to enter it so that it shows on the Return. Am I correct to say that I have to enter the amount manually and deduct the amount when submitting to HMRC.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi Louise

When you invoiced the customer, was there not an option for you to deduct the 20% CIS ?

Double check this bit and let us know?

Hi Liz

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

I have checked through Customers, Invoicing/Credit and even Bank but can't find anything to do with CIS.

Regards

Louise

Hi again Louise

I'm assuming you have Sage 50 CIS?  Which it doesn't give you a subcontractor to customer invoicing option.

Got to go to a clients just now but I'll get back to you.  Anyone else jump in Smile

Hi Lousie

If it is a customer that has deducted 20 % off your invoice because you are also a subcontractor to them .  You will received a Contractors Statement from them for and tax deductions between the 6th and 5th of each month.

You do not return this in your CIS returns.   This figure should be deducted off the monthly PAYE and NI and the company owes each month when you do your PAYE monthly returns.

It can also been done when you completing the P 35

for example the calculation is

PAYE & N1                   10000
CIS Decucted                  700

Total                           10,700
Less CIS Suffered           400

Total Tax due              10,300

Louise this is done and paid by the 19th of each month.  If  you ever have more CIS Suffered then paye and CIS decucted , you have to wait till the 5th April  and therefore you would have nil paye returns and would apply for a return on the 6th April .  They will not give it automatically.

Hi Sarah

Thank you for the advise was hoping it would show in the return as a note so I remember to deduct it. Should I forget I guess I will see it when I do my monthly managemnt accounts. Guess I am expecting too much from Sage. LOL

Sarah and Liz thank you for you advise and quick response. Have a lovely weekend

Hi Louise

Just to say I know it hard to remember these thing , so I use the Sage Diary which is available from Version 2009 as a reminder for me to do things its very useful especially as you can use just for your deadlines and things to do.

Louise the reason it would not appear as a note on a return for CIS your deducting is because that would be incorrect, and when you submitted your return using sage online it would cause a problem.

Hi Sarah / Louise

the Way i got arounf this with Sage in order to remeber to reclaim CIS suffered was to raise a credit note on the customer account putting it to the PAYE control account so it formed part of my monthly control account rec's.

I hope this was of some help.

Kind Regards
Stuart

Yup Stuart

That's the way I used to do it too Smile

And sorry Louise I was off on tangents when I answered (thinking too much - hahahaha (hysterically)

Sarah was spot on with the return - only tax deducted from sub-contractors you have paid goes on the monthly return.

I really need to get myself a CIS client so I can keep my hand in.
