CB Dip Software - Which is Best?

Hello everyone , just registered for the Forum as a direct result of recent CPD Seminars.

Having completed the CB Cert earlier this year I am now starting to prepare for the CB Dip and want to combine the preparation with the options to upgrade software in the future for actual practice work. I used the basic Sage Instant Accounts v16 package for the CB Cert but was not impressed with Sage marketing strategy and it does not seem to be particularly customer friendly towards the needs of bookkeepers looking after a number of small businesses from a home office.

I am looking for suggestions please on software freindly to the demands of CB Dip and flexible enough to develop for clients.

Welcome to the forum.

I too used Sage to complete my CB.Cert and was equally unimpressed. An accountant suggested online softeware, so upon investigation, did some searching. I found Clear Books to be useful and friendly, allowing you to add clients as you need to thus allowing you to work from home office. As an online accounting software, you don't have need for the expensive licences either. As a bookkeeperm, they allow you a premium service for a small price. They do have a 30 day free trial, so if you are not happy with it, then you just cancel. No quibble, no obligation.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I have done my course with Sage Instant as well and I didn't mind it. I just didn't like the ongoing backing-up to be able to use it for several companies. Sage 50 is too expensive for me - only just obtained my licence. I am a bit worried to use on-line base software - it is not in my control. Has anyone got an experience with the ICB online software? - wouldn't mind this one as it is ICB's own network!
Also, how would the Data Protection Act work with on-line based software - the data would be kept on ICB's server???
Sorry if I sound thick - as I said, I am only just starting my own business.
Thank you,
Olga

Having used Sage for several years, I stumbled across VT Transaction + .  Unlimited companies which I like the idea of - I intend using it for sole traders with once or twice a year accounts needs.

We use VT Transaction +, for most accounts jobs.  It is very simple to use, if you have a good understanding of double entry bookkeeping.  It generates reference numbers, has account reconciliation functions, can issue statements, produce remittances and can also be exported into an Excel add-on for profesional looking final accounts.

All in all - we think that it is the best bookkeeping software for the money that we have used.

Hi All,

Just FYI regarding the Data Protection Act, I have called the ICO myself and spoken to them explaining that I am a self employed bookkeeper and that I keep records of other businesses accounts and also ID documents for MLR purposes, they have stated that bookkeepers are EXEMPT from having to register. Hope this clears things up.

If in doubt, I would always suggest ringing them.
