Hi James,

I have posted here on once before, but unfortunately I'm still confused. So I am hopeing you can help me.

I would like to do your home study course, due to the nearest college being 70 miles or 1.5 to 2hrs away from me.

Your website states that to become a member of the ICB I need to complete levels 1,2, & 3.

On the syllabuses there is 5 level 3's as follows:

Diploma in bookkeeping (manual or computerised)
Diploma in payroll management
Diploma in self assessment tax returns
Diploma in small business financial control
Diploma in legal bookkeeping

Do I need to complete all of these level 3's to become a MICB?

Also please could you tell me can I do all of the exams from home due to the college being so far away?

In the mean time I will be choosing the distance learning school/college to do my courses with. Unless you can recommend a particular one.

Kind Regards
Anj.

Hi James

Well I am doing manual 1 and 2 and computerised level 2 and then I became a member of ICB. You can do manual 1 and computerised 2 from home and manual 2 you have to book a place in the test centre. Have not got to this stage yet to explain more for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Tiff

Hi Anj

James probably won't be around now until Monday to reply to you, but I'm sure he'll pick it up then.

In the meantime, I'll try to explain it for you.

You start with Bookkeeping Level 1, once you've passed that you move to Level 2 and you need to do both Manual & Computerised in order to comply with the new regulations coming in from September. Having done those you can then apply to become an Associate Member of the ICB, using the initials AICB after your name. You could also at this stage apply for a practise license, if you want to work for yourself.

You can then move onto Level 3 Bookkeeping, again doing both Manual & Computerised, after which you can apply to be a Member of the ICB, using the initials MICB.

The other Level 3 diplomas are standalone qualifications, in specific areas. Some require you to be Bookkeeping qualified to a certain level, but I think payroll can be done by anyone with the requisite knowledge.

The exams are done at home except for the 2 manual bookkeeping exams (Level 2 & Level 3) which are done in exam centres, which are all over the country.

The ICB site has details of quite a few of the distance learning schools, so you really need to choose the one that seems to suit your needs best. I don't think the ICB will recommend any particular one.

Good luck

Helen

Hi Helen,

Thank you so very much, you really have helped me. My goal is to become a member of ICB.

Next thing for me to do is find an exam centre that is close and a distance learning college/school, so I have studying support too.

Many thanks again
Anj.
