Hi Anj
James probably won't be around now until Monday to reply to you, but I'm sure he'll pick it up then.
In the meantime, I'll try to explain it for you.
You start with Bookkeeping Level 1, once you've passed that you move to Level 2 and you need to do both Manual & Computerised in order to comply with the new regulations coming in from September. Having done those you can then apply to become an Associate Member of the ICB, using the initials AICB after your name. You could also at this stage apply for a practise license, if you want to work for yourself.
You can then move onto Level 3 Bookkeeping, again doing both Manual & Computerised, after which you can apply to be a Member of the ICB, using the initials MICB.
The other Level 3 diplomas are standalone qualifications, in specific areas. Some require you to be Bookkeeping qualified to a certain level, but I think payroll can be done by anyone with the requisite knowledge.
The exams are done at home except for the 2 manual bookkeeping exams (Level 2 & Level 3) which are done in exam centres, which are all over the country.
The ICB site has details of quite a few of the distance learning schools, so you really need to choose the one that seems to suit your needs best. I don't think the ICB will recommend any particular one.
Good luck
Helen
