Please note I am not offering this as a service I merely want to enquire as to how good the management reporting is and what you are able to do with it please.

For example the client would like to focus on sales and be able to analyse certain aspects of his invoices.

Client has allready brought VT+ through recommendation by someone else and has just asked me what management reports he can produce. Any information on this matter I would be grateful so I can give the client a little feedback as to how good it is & what its limitations are.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank You

I have VT transaction+ for my own use (used to be a MYOB user) for my own consultancy business and find it very easy to use. I don't need to use the Sales ledger functionality and I don't think the reporting capabilities are as extensive as Sage, however it suits most small businesses without stock.

You can run detailed reports by transaction type including sales invoice and sales credit notes, ledger reports, trial balance, P&L, TB, aged analyis, turnover by account etc.

I find it very easy to use compared to Sage and the instructions are all there on the screen.

you can download a free 60 trial version, it might be useful to try it yourself and put in some dummy transactions. You can have unlimited companies in VT and it is not expensive to buy if you do like it - about £125.

Thank you for response, do you know if you can run a report based on certain criteria within an invoice? for example when you break down the invoice into products/services can you then run a report on a specific product/service for a certain period.?

I have downloaded the free trial thank you a while ago for a play around but wanted to get some opinions on it's uses etc. The help topic section I dont find goes into much detail about the reports (maybe I just not looking hard enough)!Smile

I dont think you can. The management reporting side of VT is pretty non-exsistent. As far as I know you cant even run an itemised Aged Debtors / Creditors.

To be fair to VT, I think it's more geared to producing Vat returns and Statutory accounts  and is aimed at Bookkeepers and Accountants rather than business owners and managers.

I don't think you can get that type of detail either, I've not had the need to so you would need to experiment with the trial version.  It's very good for small business owners who just need the basics or the free cash book and it 's very good for accountants because it integrates with tax packages and with final accounts software. It doesn't have the reporting flexibility of Sage.

If your client has already bought this it is probably best to go with their decision for now rather than tell them they should have bought something else. They may come to that conclusion themselves too.

I've not tried Quickbooks yet, but that seems to the option many choose if they don't want the cost of Sage.

Will have to have a bit more of a play around with it. The client had allready brought and downloaded the software before contacting me I just hoping he didn't buy it with the hope of using it for management reporting.

Will try contacting VT although dont hold much hope for a quick reply but in the meantime I think I will update the client to its possible limitations so he doesn't have to high expectations then it is down to him as to the decision he will make  from there.

Thank you for feedback.
