Hi, I have completed B190 Introduction to bookkeeping and accounts, B291 Financial accounting and currently doing B292 Management accounting. I have just passed my level 2 in manual bookkeeping and found that this didn't come anywhere near the complexity of the Open University courses. Can I use these qualifications for exemptions with the ICB?

Dear Craig

I agree completely about the level of work required.  The fact that CIMA and others offer up to five exemptions from their exams for B291 and B292 together indicates the level of these courses.

Interesting that the IAB offer MIAB on exemption with B291 alone which is why I think that the ICB must have made a mistake in saying that both were required for MICB status by exemption.

I will watch this space for a reply to both your post and my post from the weekend.

Hi James

What if you have already completed level 1 and 2 do you still have to do both courses? Also does that mean we wouldnt have to do computerised Level 3?

One last question. If i were studying Level 3 does that mean i can offer that to clients when i am up and running or do ihave to wait till i have actually passed the courses?

Kind Regards

Zoe

So, K01 exempts me from manual level 3? I will still need to complete level 2 and 3 computerised then? Just that my exam for B292 is 10th October and it takes over 2 months for the result and even longer for proof to come through. Therefore an exemption is not much use to me and this stage as its the computerised side of things that I need to do first. I am eligible for associate member status, due to having complete the diploma in payroll but do not want to keep changing my status.

I'm thinking about doing the OU 291 course, but I have been reading some poor reviews about the quality of the course materials, is it true Craig?

Thanks

Hello Justin.
I found the course material a little hard to get totally to grips with and if I had to do it again a would probably purchased the Frank Woods book that several members of the course purchased to use alongside.
I will say if you fully understanding double entry bookkeeping then that will certainly help to pass the course.
