Level III flumped!

Urgh, have just done my level III computerised... HORRIBLE! Left it far too late, ended up rushing it over a weekend to get it posted off in time - and have THAT feeling.... thats its well and truly flumped!

Anyone else done this lol?  I cant be alone!

I'm going to end up doing the same thing. I've completed the computerised section but I just can't summon up the energy to do the written part of the exam. As it takes up 30% of the marks even if I got 70% for the computerised I'd still need to get 50% of the 30% from the written section to pass. I just can't see how I can write enough - if 7/10ths of the marks for the computerised section took all the time it took, how much do I need to write for the other 3/10ths ?

EDIT : I can see me writing "I am a fish" 400 times.

I struggled with the computer part, could not get my P&L to look right?  As for the written part i think i done over kill! I thought if i could get 30% on the written then i only need 55% on the computer, after sending it off i realised i wrote the wrong depreciation figure in and forgot to add on a new partners salary!! ARGH!!! 10 points down already!

A new partner? Surprised

Seriously - I did the whole thing manually first. Or rather I did it using an extended trial balance in Excel. I once queried on here (with Stuart Wildman I think) the importance of the layout of trial balances. I said at the time it wasn't that important in respect of doing exams - you weren't going to lose any marks over the order of things. But the layout is important in real situations such as this as it helped me easily compare my profit and loss figure to the figure Sage churned out. I was also doing the manual calculations twice (once for the extended trial balance and once for sage) so (hopefully) didn't mess up on the depreciation figures.

You mean there's "writing" to do for the computerised Level III?  So, the Level III manual is on a computer and the Level III computerised is manual? (well part of it).

About as daft as a football ground where the only part you get to sit is in the stand.

Yeah Pauline, you do the part on a computer (i used Sage) then you are asked to give a written response to two questions, to be honest the written part is easier than the computer part.

Hi Keith, Peasie & LizF,

I am eager to know whether you have received your results yet? If so, did you get the result that you hoped for?

Kind regards,

Kerry

Hi all

Sent my papers back on Friday, didn't think it was too bad but you never know, when I did my mock exam with Training Link they gave me the full 30 marks for the written part, and I only wrote about half a page per question, so it seems
that they don't require a long essay just the facts. I just hope that I am not being over confident and be in for a
big surprise. Will let you know when I get my resutls, hope it wont be to long.

Hi Kerry,

I'm waiting for my Level III Payroll Diploma result.  Paper was received on 15th September and I'm still waiting.  Estimated date is 15th October.  Managing to check only once a day!  :-)

Hi Pauline,

I missed you out as well Embarassed ..... Perhaps I need glasses!!

That is really good will power. I would be checking every hour Embarassed.

Good luck, surely the results will come through very soon, let us know when they do. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Best Regards,

Kerry

There must be a bottleneck on level 3 comp's - I'm waiting for mine to (due 19th).

@Keith - no you're not alone, I've done similar things

@Peasie - at least we get respite at weekends from checking 3 times a day

Maybe you don't check at weekends - it doesn't stop me. I'll even check at midnight in the hope they may have been at a loose end and decided to mark my exam to pass the time.

EDIT : I've even taken to filling the blank rectangle for them.

I got 92% - Merit. Originally I had hoped just to pass - but the rest of my grades were "Distinction" so part of me is disappointed.

Yes, very well done Peasie!  That's a really good mark.

I'm a little cheesed off though as your result was due after mine and I'm still waiting for mine!  :-(

What is all this about aiming to "scrape" a pass? I thought as bookkeepers we are all aiming for 100%!! Tongue Out

Lady Msaid:

We are. Of the 8% I dropped I am telling myself that was all on the written part of the exam which I admit myself I am useless at. I appreciate that as a bookkeeper I have to be able to explain things (rather than just do the bookkeeping) but I had a problem with the wording of the question in the computerised level III. I can't actually talk about it either for obvious reasons. In the real world I would have expanded my answer to include things not asked in the question (to better explain things) but in the exam world I was always told at school to only answer the question. Anyone that has done the exam will probably know what I am talking about.

I dropped 2% in the manual exam (done on a computer). I got the exact same question wrong in the mock exam. I'm annoyed at the other question I got wrong as if the actual FIGURE had been wrong then it would have affected other figures and it would have cost me quite a few marks. Can't really say too much more without breaking rules.

Congratulations. What's your next plan?
I seem to assume that everyone is the same as me and once you've passed one exam you automatically want to go on to the next one. And the next one. And the next one.

Thanks Debsie & Peasie.  Good luck with your exam Debsie!!  I'm sure you'll do well :-)

I'm doing the Level III manual next Peasie.  Already taken it once and flumped it, as I did it in too much of a hurry.  Was keen to do it before the cost went up last January and didn't have time to take the mocks....(that'll teach me).  So I am now revising the manual and will definitely do the mocks this time!  I did the payroll first before re-doing the Level III as I was told I needed it as I was already doing payroll for two clients.  Not sure if I'll do the Self-assessment, but I would like to do the Level IV.

I got 94% in my Level II manual and 98% in my level III - the reason I got higher marks for the higher level exam was because of the amount of times I did past papers. I actually understood what I was doing rather than at level II I was just doing things because that's how it was in the books. I did the level II exam too quickly I think.

My own opinion is if you intend doing level IV at some point then you'd probably be better off doing the Self assessment exam first. I know you've said you might not bother with it but it can be done fairly easily - it will more or less be included in the level IV anyway. But Level IV is not going to be done as quickly as any other exam. I reckon it could take two or three years to do this one. I've bought the first two modules and there's some amount of reading to take in.

Hi Lizf

Know what you mean I seem to go to pieces when I write exams, know the work, but seem to

Get myself into a tiz when writing the exam. I have no problem doing it for my clients. Have just submitted my level 3 Computerised, and looked over the questions

Again AFTER I SENT OFF THE PAPERS (silly) and saw I had not apportioned the profit correctly, so thats

Going to cost me quite a few marks, the rest seemed OK. I am studying the Self Assessment next do you know the passmark I have heard that its 100% is that correct?

If you don't get 100% but get fairly close they will write back to you and return your paper. They will give you a hint where you went wrong. You then have to write back and display that you now know where you went wrong and what the correct method is. You don't have to re-do the complete paper. You do have to pay to re-submit the paper.

Thanks Peasie, at least I know so will also double check each question before I send off the paper, wont leave it till the last minute and not check, I think I will do the paper hold onto it for a few days then go over it again before I send it off, my be then I will not do any silly mistakes.

Hi I am just about to request my mock for level III Computerised. On reading old posts I am pretty anxious - since when does a Computerised exam include a manual element?? Also just how hard is it?? I have so struggled through this part of the Course. Any one out there feeling the same?

Just looked up my results online and passed with Merit 93%. I'm placing all the lost marks on the written part. I had hoped for more but going through previous posts i'm well pleased with my efforts.
