Waiting....

I had to leave my job of 15 years through  ill health over 4 years ago. Since then I have been on incapacity benefit and during this time a have done several courses. I have spent the last 12 months completeing the Open University Certificate in Accounting. I had a two month wait for that result, which I mailed to the ICB on the 13th December 2011.
Now I am waiting for my exemptions to be granted. How long do these things take? They said 28 days, still waiting. So life is on hold....again.

Hi Craig,

Perhaps give them a call to chase up? They should be able to tell you what is happening.

Finally received my offer of full mebership today.  Just now a case of finding the £241 to pay for them within the stipulated 30 day time limit. Must say a little bit peeved at this as this is a lot of money to me and will take some finding, but will need to so I can put my learning to some use. Keep telling myself "it will be worth it in the end".

Regards

Craig.

Hi Craig,

Firstly, well done on gaining your qualification.

The £241 is a lot of money, but look at it as an investment, from which I'm sure you shall reap the rewards.

Best of luck for the future.

Hi Craig,

As Dave says this is an investment for your future.

Imagine doing your exams twice.............and paying twice!!

That's what I had to do because even though I qualified in 1999, I moved to Spain for 4 years and never kept up the subscriptions.

I do, however, totally understand where the ICB were coming from because If I'm totally honest, I was a bit rusty after 4 years of being out of the accounting profession and with the ever changing rules and regulations, we really need to be on top of our game.

I don't regret one minute of it because now I have a sucessful business with staff and am living the dream of being self employed and my own boss.

My advice would be to not let this opportunity go under your nose.

Good luck and keep us posted

Thank you for your kind words Dave and Sharon.

I have today updated my membership to full memeber level and will pay for my exemptions at the end of the month. Fingers crossed my practice licence will not be long after.

Can't wait to move myself and family off the benefit system into the scary world of the self employment.

Regards

Craig
