Hi Sal,

I believe the exam for 10-11 only actually came out September/October 2011, therefore I would not expect this to change any time soon (perhaps the same time this year).

Hope this helps.

Regards

Kerry

Ami @ ICBsaid:

“Hello there,

We are currently selling the 10/11 book which has been available since June

The 11/12 book should be available in May this year (which will help you prepare for filing returns for the January 2013 deadline)

We wait until HMRC updates the online return forms in April and then we can update the book.

For a sneak peak of the 10/11 book please refre to this article published in the December newsletter:

When would the actual exam be available for 11/12? There seems to have been a few months (3 - 4 ish) difference from when 10/11 book was available (June) to when the exam was available (Sept/Oct).

Also, when will the 10/11 exam be discontinued?

Thanks

Regards

Interesting.  So a good time to start to study for the SA exam would be once the 11-12 book comes out in May - so that on the off chance I get a tax return to do (other than my own of course!) - I would have learnt the correct year one.

Is this right?  Little point in starting out now on 10/11 year is there?

Also in order to be able to offer tax returns - do you have to have passed just the SA exam - or the man&comp level 3 also.  I know for payroll it is just the payroll exam.

Hi Penguin

Now I am certainly in no position to give you advice, but I personally will be doing the 10/11 exam; I did my study Sept last year, just haven't got round to sitting the exam yet (through fear!), therefore I am sticking with the year's figures I have learnt.

At the end of the day, when completing an actual return, the principles will be similar/ the same, just the figures/percentages etc may differ from year to year - but this information can be sought from HMRC website.

You are unable to do the self assessment until you have completed the level 2's (which you obviously have already). So in answer to your question; in order to carry out this type of work you don't need to have completed the level 3 Man & Comp, just the level 2 and Self assessment exams.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Kerry

Did someone managed to buy the manual for Self assessment Tax returns?

I am not sure whether I should buy the manual, as I cannot see it's content.

Can someone (that has the manual) advise on the manual's format?  Does it explain the calculations in detail, or just gives examples and where to put the figures in the self assessment tax return (just targetted to the exam only).  The reason for my question is obviously whether i could use it for personal purposes and understand the reason for the calculations and answers.

Furthermore, does anyone has some mock exams for the Self Assessment and Payroll Management you can share with me?

Thanks
garmen
