Getting enquiries from Twitter

I have had 2 enquiries from Twitter, my first 2. I now have my first meeting with a potential client next week, if I get the work it will be my first client. As I see lots of marketing tips on here but not Twitter.  Twitter is being used alot by businesses, so it is some where to find our potential clients.  Twitter can be used as a marketing tool.

My tips for Twitter. Profile name choice a recognisable name, i.e. local town/area plus Bookkeeper. Then the username @ is related to your business name, mine is the main part of my url.

I think with Twitter you need to be active. I aim to Tweet twice a day, at different times of the day. Usually about local events, especially business orientated, replies to tweets - congratulation etc. but not about personal things unless you can relate it to another business with @... It isn't about selling but about being seen! I thank all the people who follow me with a Tweet including their @... If they are irrelevant to me or in the US I don't let them follow.

Following, both of my enquiries I got by looking for local businesses, in different twitter accounts and following them. I target the type of business I am looking for in my local area, I have a few other people I am following - those that look good ie ICB. If you have a personal account keep it separate. One account one purpose. Long-term I think it is just a case of people knowing about you. I would suggest you put aside 1/2 hour per day, to see if it works for you.

I hope this helps, someone get clients. Do let us know or post any questions you have.

Hi

I think you have raised some good points .  Twitter works if you keep it updated and interesting , the minute you go on about yourself all the time and continously sell yourself followers get bored.   You need to be be witty.

Having worked in the marketing industry there are plently of Stats to show this.  I think it is great if you have the time.  I have tried it both following and to be followed and actually got bored with it.  After about a month.

But I do think if you have the time to put into it can work, but remember even MacDonalds made a mess of it.

I can easily see me getting bored with it, but as it generate enquiries I will stick with it.  I find I send about 30 mins a day on it, I think it is important to keep an eye on the time it takes and will reduce this later to 3 or 4 times a week. As I am starting out it is a cost effective way of advertising, especially as I can target small, local businesses.

Thanks Sylvia

I will take your points on board and act on them as I find it difficult in my area to find clients. I have managed to get 1 so far within the last three weeks from a networking meeting.

I first got my practice licence in Sept 2010
