Hi All,

Advise needed - What is the best way to study for the above exam? Purchase Icb Book? use just the website?

thanks for your input

Hi Sal

I've just taken the SA exam, (2010/11) and while the ICB book was helpful in breaking down a few of the calculations needed, I found the information HMRC provide on their website is much better for getting clarity on what is required to complete the forms.  It gives good explainations for each box you need to fill in.

I was a bit daunted by the lengthy HMRC 'help' forms when I first printed them off, but found that as the HMRC info is aimed at people doing their own self assessments rather than professionals, its in plain english and easy to understand.

All being said - I am waiting for my results, so I may still have got it all wrong!

Good luck

Hi,

How do complete the exam in SA? Is it online or do they post it out to you? I looked in the 'shop' on the ICB website but the exam didn't appear to purchase?

Thanks
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I believe it is a paper exam through the post.

You will need to contact the ICB to book the exam, so you get the right one (for the right year).

I used the ICB SA manual, but did not find it covered everything in the exam.  I can't give anything away, but I agree with the previous post - supplement your study with HMRC helpsheets.

I think I must be one of the few who only used the ICB book to pass this exam.  I found it had everything I needed and it still sits on my shelf with loads of new rates written in it, but its a useful resource.
