Do you need a plan?

When you starlet your bookkeeping practice did you have a clear plan of your short and long term goals and how to achieve them?  Did you know who your clients were going to be, or did you cast your net wide?

I am writing an article on goal setting for bookkeepers which has led me to wonder how many bookkeepers clearly define their goals and how many start out on a road where they have no idea where they will end up.

Hi Kris,

When I started my practice I:

  • Knew what type of client I wanted/ still want.
  • Had a short and Long term plan, which I need to review on more regular basis.
  • Had goals, long term and short term ones...Again need reviewing.

Kind Regards,

Thought I would add to this for you Kris as I am just in the process of starting up!

I have a rough idea of the sort of client I will probably find, and the type I would like - not necessarily the same!
I have a goal list but currently not with any particular time frame.

So I would have to say I am a cast the net wide and see what the tide brings in type .....
