Thinking of re-joining ICB

I am thinking of re-joining the ICB, joined in 2008 (i think) as an asscoicate member with Level 2 computerised but due to family comitments decided not to pursue it as a business.

I am now thinking of re-joining and relise that memberhip has changed since 2008 and you now need to take manual exams to get practice certificate, which i belive is a good thing.

I do have many years experience doing bookkeeping and have an H.N.D in Business and Finance so i'm not a complete newbie.

My aim is to initially get to Level 2 and take the additional option of doing the Self-Assessment modual and get my practice licence, is that possible?

I also intend to self study, at least as far as the above is concerned but I would want to take it further in the future and would probably look at a home study course for level 3 and beyond.

My goal is to offer bookkeeping, Final accounts for sole traders, vat returns and self-assessment returns, mainly for one particular sector which i am currently invlovded in and have contacts with, it is trade related and i already do all my own accounts and self-assessment so I will able to relate to these businesses / traders on a personal level.

From the above does that sound feasabile and a realsitic goal to acheive in a relatively short space of time? I would then intend to take it further and progress to levels 3 and 4 in due course.

By "is that possible?" - do you mean, can you sit the Self Assessment exam when you have only done level II in bookkeeping, then yes, it is possible. Or at least, it was possible before and I can't really see that changing.

I know they are changing things in that you must complete the manual bookkeeping BEFORE the computerised bookkeeping (which seems sensible enough). Here's the order I passed exams in...
Level I - Basic
Level II - Manual
Self Assessment
Level II - Computerised
Payroll Management
Level III - Manual
Level III - Computerised
