Hello all,

After a good read on the forum about the practice builder program and CPD I would like to mention here again about the new Essex branch meeting launch on the 25th September in Colchester.

When I started up 2 years ago it was daunting and scary, and rather stressfull - I am sure I have a few more grey hairs to show for it. But going to my closest ICB meeting in Suffolk and meeting other bookkeepers has provided me with a peer group I could go to for advice and help. The meetings gave me reassurance and support and we have grown as professionals and as a group together. For any of you who are studying or just setting up your practices, local ICB groups will give you so much more than just speakers and CPD points! The support of the group is fantactic and I come away with renewed motivation and enthusiasm to achieve my goals as a newly qualified bookkeeper every time.

This is why Micheal (whom you will meet at the meeting) and I are starting up a group for Essex in Colchester.  We will have great speakers, of course, but also there will be time to discuss your worries and share experiences with other fellow bookkeepers at the end of each meeting.  I would like to encourage all local students and members to come along and bring all those important questions of 'how to start your practice', 'how to find clients', 'how to prepare for the first client meeting' and the rest of them with you. I am sure Mike Foster, Head of Member Development, will agree, that finding a mentor to guide you through the tough times can help hugely and our Essex branch can be one of those mentors.

You can book your place for the lauch meeting though Resources - Events tab here. And if you have any questions please get in touch with me or the ICB.

Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting!

Rasa
