A friends asked for advise

I am new to the forum, and nearly completed the complete package course. My friend has a sports fitness and martial arts business and has been told he can claim £10 a day for food due to all the extra calories he burn's of during his job which could be justified. And he was also told he could claim for all his clothing which he uses just for his work, but also could be used for private use  which i know he dosen't do. But I am still worried about the dual aspect of it. He has registered as a sole trader, and has said once qualified he would become my first client. So could someone please help me clear these points up for him.

kind regards

Dermot Thomas

Hi Dermot, If he gets his comany logo put on his work stuff then it should be allowable. Have a look at the HMRC website. I've put a link for hmrc that explains better about food. It wouldn't be allowed as people eat anyway, not just because they are at work http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/bimmanual/BIM37670.htm

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Dermot,

I have a client who is a professional rugby player and he is entitled to claim for food (sustenance) where many of my other clients cannot.  I would speak to HMRC to get this clarified but what he is saying sounds correct.
