SSP and self certification

Hi I have just started a new job in payroll, and was a bit confused how they work the SSP. I had received a self certification but was dated for a month, my manager said that they had to pay for up to a month SSP by law without a doctors note. Knowing the self certification is for 7 days how does this work.

Never heard of that Stevie - I'd question it as being wrong if I were you.........!

Unless your client has their own contractual rules about notes and sick pay, then I'd say that they are wrong. they cannot ask for a medical not before 7 days but should do after. If they pay under their rules then do it, but unless it is in their contact of employment i'd say that you should have a medical note. It could be a new rule I surpose but don't think so, or else everyone would do it.

Very best wishes

Thank you for your response, it has been a great help. I think it is just something that she has adopted over time.
