Self Assessment...which tax year?

Hopefully someone will answer this asap...

I have been self studying from the 2013/14 ICB textbook and resat the mock today getting 97%. Having looked at the questions I got wrong, I'm feeling confident enough to sit the real thing. My issue is which one? ICB have both 2013/14 & 2015/16 on there. Other than tax bands, etc changing, is there any change in syllabus that dictates which one I should go for?

Please respond.

Hello,

I have just taken the SAT exam. On reflection I think it would have been easier to have done the 2014/2015 paper as all information on HMRC's website is relevant towards this current tax return.

Although you can find historical information it was just a bit harder to understand what was relevant in my opinion.

Hope it goes well for you whichever one you choose to do. I would say 97% should make both exams possible for you :-)

Hi - with regards to the 14/15 SAT examination, the current year tests partnership returns for the first time. it is however quite straightforward. You are asked to appropriate the profits including salaries, and enter how much each partner would receive into the relevant partnership return boxes. Otherwise, apart from the threshold changes the paper will be in a similar format to 13/14.

Hope this helps

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for the response.  However, I had already decided to take the 2013/14 exam as I had used the ICB textbook of that year.  I am so pleased as I got 98%!!!  Off to have a little party with my toddler in celebration LaughingLaughing

I wish I could find out what the 2% was as I feel some of the questions could be open to interpretation especially one in particular and if it is that one, I would question whether I should maybe have had 100%...  Plus, as I am stelf-studying, I don't have a knowledgeable tutor to talk it through with.

Just waiting for a confirmation email I suppose before letting my clients know I'm able to do their tax returns.

Hi all

Just saw this post and wondered if you could tell me the best way to go about studying for this module as I have seen in the ICB shop the book is £150 and then on training link it is £275 with the exam fee and help.

Which is the best option to choose?

Also I am a full member but took the exams on the old syllabus over 2 years ago, does that have any consequence on my eligabilty?

Thanks

Hi Gail,

I bought the 2013/14 textbook when they were on offer as exam was being updated. I'm sure the new 2015/16 textbook is only £70 odd but check that. I'm also sure the old exam will only be available for another month or so.

I found it an easy way to learn although I did come across a few things which made me think it hadn't been proof read properly...

I would also check with ICB if there is an issue with the time since you last sat an exam...sure I read that somewhere.

Hope that helped.
