Simplified Self Assessment query

Hi.

Hubby has been self employed for a while and in previous years has used the simplified self assessment for vehicles.  He now has a contract where he is paid mileage.  Does he have to declare the mileage payments as additional income?  We keep going round in circles on teh HMRC helpsheets. Thanks

 Hi Willowess

I assume that your husband has been claiming the 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p thereafter.

The mileage payments will be declared as income and then as before deduct the mileage he covers as an expense at the HMRC rates.

Hope that helps
