VAT on Takeaway Food - Mainly Kebabs

I have a client who is running a Kebab Shop.

He is going to have to register for VAT.

I know that Kebabs are generally fully VATABLE at standard rate.

However ...... he supplies his kebabs wrapped seperately i.e. Meat / Salad / Pitta all wrapped individually.

What I am asking is, taking into account the items are wrapped seperately and that he will have the following 'information' on his menu :-

"To assist you in ordering your food we have shown our prices as combined, however our kebab meat / salad & pitta are served separate. Our kebabs consist of - Meat £2.70  – Salad £1.50 – Pitta £0.50 = £4.50 – should you not require the salad or pitta please let us know when placing your order and we will deduct the above cost accordingly"

Will he have to charge VAT on th entire item, or only the 'Meat' element.

Thanks

Hey Sandra,

Check out the VAT notice specifically written for takeaway:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-7091-catering-and-take-away-food/vat-notice-7091-catering-and-take-away-food

I hope this helps,

Reedy
