Subsitence

Hi all,

I already know the answer to this question but after hearing different views on the matter i'm starting to question myself so would appreicate advise.

I know the answer to "Can self employed people claim subsitence?" is a big no but I've been approached by a couple of private ambulance crews to do their accounts who have questioned this.

they've been told they can claim subsistence as they work 12+ hour shifts that never finish on time and they never know where they are going to be sent in the country and don't have set/guaranteed meal breaks.

I've spoken to other people who said if they were their client they would put it through.

Obviously they are not entitled to mileage allowance as they don't use their vehicle but would subsitence in this instance be a valid expense.

looking for reassurance please.

Hi Mandy and All

I too have a question about this subject.  My client is a sole trader (Builder) who regularly takes eggs and bacon etc and does a fry up for the subcontractors at the workplace, (location which varies from job to job). His previous Accountant used to put through a set figure each month, and said he did not need any receipts for this.

Now I have been advised that to put anything through, receipts must be obtained as evidence.  Other advice I have received is that a claim for subsistence should not be allowed at all in these circumstances.

I am interested to see other comments re this subject as I too have heard lots of different views on the matter.

Thanks

Sue
