BA5 Fail

Hi All,

I'm after some reassusrance and help if anyone out there can give it. I took my BA5 mock last weekend and failed with 100%... yet this week i took the live paper and failed with 76% - absolutely devaststed!

The live paper was soooo much harder and diffierent to the mock. Did anybody else find this too? Normally the mocks are pretty much carbon copies of the live paper with just differnt scenarios/figures.

I've not failed an exam yet, so i really don't know how to go about booking another in terms of timescales, when can i take it? And what should i revise for to hopefully pass the next time!

Any help or advice would be really appreciated - i have no idea where to go from here!

Thanks so much in advance, Emma x

Hi Emma,

I had the exact same problem but with the BA4 - the exam they had given me was much much harder and a different format even to the mocks! What was even more annoying was that i failed with 84%!!!! So for the sake of 1 measly percent i had to spend another £36 (which was more expensive than the first exam!) and another day of my own time to resit

You can apply to take a resit 24 hours after you have the results from the exam, the resit will be different questions to the first one you did - i have just done this and to my relief the second one i did was the same format as the mocks, much easier! I think it's luck of the draw to be perfectly honest as to which set of questions you get first. I feel much more confident with the resit, so fingers crossed we both pass!

Hope you get on ok with the resit

Thanks for taking the time to reply Nic - i really appreciate it.

I've purchased an exam report this morning from the ICB so that i can do some research into the grey areas! They say that it could take up to 28 days, but hopefully not! I don't want to wait that long before resitting.

Godd luck to you with your studies x

Hi Emma,

Just wondered if you managed to get your report from the ICB and if it was of any used?

Reason i ask is i just did my BA5 too and oh my goodness it was so hard, failed it so will have to resit too

Thanks

 Hi Nic,

Thanks for your email. To cut a long story short i purchased the report, and then was told by the ICB a couple of days later that there isn't actually a report available for this email!

So i'm still not really any further forward! Please feel free to email me - emmahills1983@gmail.com

Maybe we can support each other?!? Sorry i couldn't have been any more help.

Good luck, i feel your pain. This exam was awful x

Hello All,

I just went through the exact same thing with the BA5 Mock/Exam - sat the mock, which took 15 minutes and was very easy so thought "Ok, no need to look into anything any more or brush up on past study. I'll just do it now".

The actual exam was completely different, different format a 24% question on TB/Adjustments that wasn't in the mock and I failed by a couple of percent. If I'd have known it was in there i'd have brushed up on past stuff and worked more before sitting it.

Don't see the point in paying for a mock that does not do anything to prepare you for the actual exam.

VERY annoyed. Anyone had any joy contacting ICB about it?

I mentioned it on an email to them before and it was ignored. However what I have found doing the other exams for BA6 and 7 is that if you do both of the mocks the actual exam seems to be a combination of them both

Hi, I am an ACCA affiliate and I decided to take the exams for laughs. I would like to do the Self Assessment exam to refresh tax knowledge, but to do so I need level three bookkeeping and I thought I'd take the exams rather than apply for an exemption. With 20 years of experience in accounts all the previous exams ICB exams have been a breeze, but today I actually only got 89%, so I can completely understand why less experienced people might struggle to pass. Whilst I was doing the exam, I did not feel it was that difficult and I felt like I knew everything, and yet quite a few errors slipped in. I wish I could see the questions and my answers again so that I could establish exactly what I got wrong. I wish everyone who failed luck their next attempt.
