hi

has anyone else experienced a duplicate import of bank statement entries into xero and if so how you go about unpicking it please? It's happened to me with two different clients now.  I was led to believe that if you duplicated an upload xero would recognise the duplicate entires and not upload them......?

 Hi Karen

Generally this happens where, for some reason the the bank feed is broken for a while and then you decide to import the statment manually for the missing transactions. The most common reason is that the manual import description is slightly different to the feed description for the same transcation, causing duplicates. These errors generally happen for Yodlee feeds, so if there is a direct feed available, I would recommmend spending that bit extra to get a good clean feed that is safe and secure.

The best way to check for duplicates is to compare the bank statement with the xero statement lines and any duplicates can then be deleted on Xero. You can do this from the bank rec or bank statement tab in rec. Remember if you delete an already reconciled statement line, be sure to also delete the account transcation,

hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. That makes sense because when I uploaded the report this time it asked me to verify the information fields which I thought was strange. (This is the 3rd month I've uploaded a bank statement)  Do you know if xero has the ability to link direct to the bank?

thank you again for your help

 Hi Karen

Yes, it is one of the strengths of Xero, since it was one of the first to introduce direct connection to bank to get the data. They have a direct feed (costs), with HSBC, METRO, NATWEST, RBS, BARCLAYS, SVB, SANTANDER, and Yodlee feeds (free) for many more banks. Please see this link.
