Quickbook Accounts in a Mess!

Hi.

I have just begun working with a company that owns +15 properties that are rented out with a high turnover of occupants (DHSS). They had Quickbooks set up by another bookkeeper who has now left. They have not had a bookkeeper for several months. Nothing has been filed and receipts and invoices seem to be in piles everywhere! The bank accounts do not appear to have been reconciled and transactions have not been updated since the October. The main bank account is also used by the client as their own private account.

Please, please, please can I have some advice as to where to start my head is spinning!

 Hi,

Please check the bank account in QB whether the previous book keeper reconcile or not? You can ckeck in quick book by - Company ---Chart of Accounts----Select current bank account and then you can see the banking activities whether they ticked or not.

If the company not maintain bank account, separate the business transaction from private account and start the work. Advice the client to open a bank account for Business.

thanks

 Hi Angie

Perhaps a professional clearance letter with the previous bookkeeper, may have shed the light as to why they left. I always feel, that with clients like these unless they feel the pain of cost, relating to getting their affairs sorted, they will never change and you will forever be chasing your tail.

Make sure you charge them a heafty fee, for clearing up.

Thank you all for your replies. After further investigation I found a considerable amount of unpaid bills with several letters threatening leagal action.  There were also unpaid invoices from bookkeepers and accountancy companies she was no longer working with. I informed the client that I was not going to continue with the work, got my weeks pay and left. Lucky escape I feel.
