Clean-up Services

Hi,

I've had my practice licence for a few months but have literally just opened the doors and am looking to find my first customer.  I've read that other bookkeepers perform a clean-up service before taking on a new customer to check everything's in order.  Can anyone advise what that involves and whether there is anything specific I should be looking for?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Michelle

I'd always do a mini balance sheet audit. Print off detailed aged debtor & creditor balances and verify the balances with the client, check if the accountants year end adjustments have been processed, check the last time the bank reconciled to a bank statement, check if the PAYE/wages controls reconcile etc. It's about making yourself comfortable with what's in the accounts.
