VAT - Apple/iTunes/iCloud

Here's a question for all those who love EU VAT issues!

Why is it that the Apple Distribution - based in Luxemburg - don't operate a reverse charge on their invoices for things like iTunes, iCloud, etc.  We have written to them but they keep saying that whilst they will accept our GB VAT number as reference the VAT rate will remain the same - i.e. UK rate of 20%.

Thank you to anyone who can clarify this for me.

There is a simialr issue with Amazon Prime Invoices and the answer they have given is that the service is a personal/indivudual service not a business one therefore this is not neccesary or permitted.

Not satisfactory but you try arguing with giants like Amazon and Apple!

Hi David.
Thank you for your response. It makes sense that what you’ve explained would be their position, though they didn't give us that, or any reason. Hmm, I wonder if all that VAT is what allows them to get away with such low corporation tax?!
Thank you again.
