Is it possible to get employment with only ICB qualifications?

Hello. I have the Level III Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounts. Is there much chance of this getting me a job? I don't wish to start my own practice (at least not at this time) but having ICB qualifications doesn't seem to be helping me with employment. Everybody seems to either want someone with experience or someone studying AAT. Even recruitment agencies are unimpressed. I see that AAT now has an Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping but I don't want to spend time/money on that just to find nobody is impressed with that either. Has anyone gotten a job in bookkeeping just from ICB qualifications, no previous experience working in bookkeeping? Any advice is much appreciated.

Shame you are too far away for my practice. I am looking to employ.

But it is true, most people doing ICB tend to look to setting up their own practice. AAT qualification is much more driven towards employment.

Hi,  I held the Level III Cert. in Bookkeeping & Accounts for a few year before progressing further to full MICB & MAAT.  I never found it difficult to find work as the ICB is a very highly regarded organisation.  You currently hold a good qualification therefore I would just keep applying and try not to get too downhearted along the way.  Do you do any networking ?  ICB Branch Meetings and event like the Annual Conference and Roadshow are worth attending.  I hope you find something soon, try accounts assistant posts too as this is a great way to get yourself a job in the accounting function of most companies .

Hi,

Although many of our ICB students and Members are driven towards setting up as a self-employed bookkeeper, many of our members have found employment as a bookkeeper using their ICB qualifications. Members and non-members post vacancies on our website for our ICB bookkeepers to fill. If you are looking for work you can visit our job vacancies section of the website: https://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Resources/Bookkeeping-Jobs/View-Job-Listings.

ICB Branch meetings, Bookkeepers Summit and the Inspire Tour are a great way of networking within the ICB bookkeeping community. We are a friendly bunch and you will be welcomed with open arms. If you would like to discuss your options with a member of the ICB Team please contact us on 0203 405 4000 and we will be more than happy to help.
