Hi All,

I am self studying in preparation for the Diploma in SAT 2016-17 exam. I have the ICB issued text book and have worked through it answering all the self test questions but feel that I need some more revision prior to taking the exam. Can anyone point me in the direction of any useful resources that they used prior to taking the exam.

Many Thanks

Laura

I like Alan Melville's Taxation book, there is also an accompanying website on which you can test your knowledge. AAT books and information published by HMRC could also be useful.

Hi Laura,

I've just recently completed this, doing self-study as well.

As well as the ICB textbook, I found the HMRC website useful to clarify bits and pieces. I also did both of the mocks which were really helpful, as the actual exam seemed to mirror the mock quite closely.

Still found it the most frustrating ICB exam I've done though !! Smile

Good luck !

Hi Gina,

Thanks for your reply. I will have to utilise the HMRC website a bit more I think.

When you say you did both of the mocks, I thought there was only 1 for the 2106-17. Do you mean you did the 2015-16 and 2016-17 mocks or am I mistaken and there are actually 2 for 2016-17?

It's such a high pass mark that I am finding it quite intimidating.

Thanks again,

Laura

Hi Laura,

There are actually two mocks for the 2016/17 year. You need to pay for and take the first one. Then, if you book the same paper again, you should get a different set of questions the second time round.

I found some of the questions in the mocks a bit ambigious about what they were looking for, and it was only because I'd got my head round what they meant that I managed to do ok in the actual exam. I was tearing my hair out though ! Cry

Kind regards,

Gina

Hi Gina,

Oh I presumed there was only the 1 mock exam for each year. In the core units the mocks are separated as mock 1 or mock 2 but as the SAT unit doesn't offer that I didn't realise there were in fact 2 mocks. That makes things a bit brighter as I have already taken 1 of the mocks so knowing I can take a different one is great. I will get on it and see how I get on with mock 2.

I have to admit I am finding it to be a ratehr frustrating unit but a unit I want to overcome none the less.

Thanks for advice and will let you know how it goes.

 Hi Gina,

Further to my last post, I just went to book the second mock and upon reading further into the disclaimer it does state there are 2 mocks. Shows what you get for not fully reading things.

Thanks again though

Just took the second mock paper and I have to say I did vastly better than my first attempt which has now filled me much more confidence. Sections of this one I got fully correct were areas I lost marks massively the first time so I've obviously learnt more since my last mock.

Am so pleased that Gina brought the second mock to my attention. Fingers crossed for the main even tomorrow!!

Hi Gina,

I am thrilled to be able to let you know that I passed the SAT 2016-17 exam this afternoon!! Cool

Must say a huge thank you for pointing out the second mock as that definitely made all the difference.
