Regional Seminar dates announced for 2010

As the year draws merrily to a close, I would like to wish you and your families a very happy holiday season.

Like most of us, however, the Institute is already looking to the New Year and we are happy to announce the dates for next year’s round of regional seminars for members and students.  The series will commence in March with Reading and will finish three months later in Belfast.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]-->

The regional seminars are always highly successful and attract members from across the country.  Whether members are employed or are running their own practice, there is so much to learn from these one-day seminars.  Added to that, members tell the Institute that the chance to meet and network with other members in invaluable.

If you haven’t been to a seminar before, see what you can expect by watching our video of the 2009 Brighton seminar by clicking on this video link below

Members and students can attend any of the seminars; you don’t have to go to the one in your area if that doesn’t fit in with your schedule.

Please click here for a list of the dates and cities and rest assured, further information will be released in the New Year.

Have a wonderful Christmas time.

Garry Carter

Chief Executive

The Institute’s membership fees will rise with effect from 1 January. The new fees will be as follows:

Know Your Clients

As honest as the day is long – but have you noticed how the nights are drawing in? We normally take people on face value. As bookkeepers we have to dig a bit deeper – it’s our job. A member of the ICB has just proved the point, if ever it were in doubt. She handles the books and tax returns for a sole trader. Nice person: Nice family: Nice client. Until the client was arrested that is. The problem is that the client is suspected to have been bringing into the country certa...

Bookkeeping gains new recognition

Bookkeeping recognised in new National Occupational Standards Following strong lobbying by the Institute over many years, the Financial Sector Skills Council (FSSC) has strongly influenced the development of the QCF Units in Bookkeeping that are to become the National Standards. This is the first time that bookkeeping has been recognised as a separate profession to accounting...........
