Practical vocational qualifications that lead to ICB membership and professional status
You can take assessments as soon as you register as a student. To achieve ICB qualifications you need to complete the following assessments in order.

Level II Certificate in Bookkeeping
This Certificate covers the basic principles of single and double entry bookkeeping and its application to business in both a manual and a computerised system.
Occupational Role: Assistant Bookkeeper
Upon completion of this qualification candidates will be able to carry out the role of an employed assistant bookkeeper under supervision. They should be able to apply postings from the books of prime entry and from source documents to the ledger accounts and produce an initial trial balance. They will also be able to set up a computerised bookkeeping system, enter details of all transactions and produce reports.
Pre requisites
No prior bookkeeping knowledge is assumed at this level but candidates must have basic numeracy.
Candidates must hold valid student registration.
Assessment Type
Three home-based timed online assessments taken in order.

Level III Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounts
This Certificate covers the preparation of ledger balances, control accounts and reconciliations, adjustments and preparation of final accounts for non-incorporated businesses or organisations.
Occupational Role: Self-Employed Bookkeeper/Employed Bookkeeper
Upon completion of this qualification candidates will be able to carry out the role of an employed or self-employed bookkeeper, be able to reconcile bank statements with the ledgers, produce a VAT return, control the sales and purchases ledgers, post year-end adjustments and produce the final accounts for a sole trader, partnership and not-for-profit organisation in both a manual and a computerised system.
Pre requisites
Before commencing the study at this level the candidate should have achieved ICB Level II Certificate in Bookkeeping or its equivalent with another awarding body.
Candidates must hold valid student registration or ICB membership.
Assessment Type
Three timed home-based online assessments and one timed centre-based assessment.

Level IV Certificate in Advanced Bookkeeping and Accounts
This Certificate covers the production of a set of accounts from incomplete records, advanced partnership accounts and the preparation and interpretation of internal management accounts for incorporated bodies.
Occupational Role: Self-Employed Bookkeeper/Senior Employed Bookkeeper
Upon completion of this qualification candidates will be able to carry out the role of an employed or self-employed bookkeeper, producing draft year-end accounts for limited companies and limited liability partnerships in both a manual and a computerised system within the above limitations.
Pre requisites
Before commencing study at this level the candidate should have achieved ICB Level III Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounts or its equivalent with another awarding body.
Candidates must hold valid student registration or ICB membership.
Assessment Type
One timed home-based online assessment and one timed centre-based assessment.

Level III Diploma in Payroll Management
This qualification covers the theoretical knowledge and demonstration of the use of various tables and publications issued by HMRC and the demonstration of how to carry out computerised handling of payroll related matters.
Entry-Requirements
No prior bookkeeping knowledge or qualifications are required but candidates must have basic numeracy skills.
Candidates must:

Level III Diploma in Self Assessment Tax
This qualification comprises both Personal and Business Taxation and relates to preparing tax computations and returns for businesses (sole trader) and individuals.

Level III Diploma in Costing and Budgeting
This qualification is aimed at those who have completed at least the Level III Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounts and who wish to understand in more detail the how a business needs to carefully analyse its costs and income, plus being able to produce budgets.
This Diploma will also lead quite smoothly into the Management Accounting Unit at Level IV which deals with similar topics but at a much more detailed level, and which is aimed at larger businesses which might require cost and budgeting information in more complex format. From 1 January 2017 this Level III Diploma will be a compulsory pre-requisite those wishing to take the Level IV Management Accounting module.

Having completed all the qualifications up to this point you can start ICB's highest level qualification. Choose between these Level IV units or complete any four units to be awarded the full Diploma.
