Claire has always worked in accounts and customer services but, when she was bringing up her son, she needed to find a job which worked around school hours. She took up bookkeeping as a freelance job as it offered the flexibility she required. Three years later, she obtained her ICB Practice Licence and now successfully runs her own bookkeeping practice, Team 4 Solutions LLP.
Her journey has not been without its challenges, however. When she was first starting as a self-employed bookkeeper, Claire often worked through the night to complete VAT returns. Now that she has a team around her who can help her run her business, Claire is hoping to do some long-distance travelling and can relax in the knowledge that she has great staff behind her.
Claire advises future women leaders to expect that becoming self-sufficient is hard but says,
“Don’t give up! There will always be disappointments but that can teach you different ways to get to where you're going.”
Claire is the ICB East Sussex Branch Chair and sits on the Advisory Council.
This is part of our year-long #ICB100Women Campaign honouring 100 influential and inspiring women bookkeepers, to celebrate the suffrage centenary.
