A local agency suggested I try this website as a social networking for businesses site. Just wondered if it would be a waste of time or if anyone is on there and can give me some feedback. Thanks

My husband is on LinkedIn and he was headhunted by his current company through it.
They have a section of the HR department who specifically looks at these sites to find potential employees (cutting out the massive recruitment consultancy fees).
Don't see why it couldn't work the same for the self employed - just another way of finding "somebody who knows somebody who is self employed and needs a bookkeeper.
Let me know how you get on - will give a go myself and report back too

Will do.
I've signed up for a couple of groups on there but don't know what they are called off the top of my head. I'll have to let you know, but that does sound very interesting.

Found the ICB on there. But all the other groups I have joined appear to be full of Americans. Grrrrrr Can't seem to find out how to un-join these groups and they are already filling up my inbox with cr@p Grrrrrr

I've just signed up after going to a network meeting, they have a group. ICB still hasn't approved me! I met someone at a network event and she said she had got business through linkedIn.

Hi
Yes, you do need approval to join a group.
On LinkedIn there appears to be:
- A 'group' called Institute of Certified Bookkeepers - I think this is the one referred to - is it UK based?
- A 'company' called Institute of Certified Bookkeepers - this is Australian.
- ICB Global
Even if most discussions/queries take place here on the forum, being a member of the ICB group on LinkedIn is still beneficial as any contacts/potential clients will see the connection, thereby promoting both the bookkeeper and the Institute.
I've only just started but will seek to use it for networking - this format of making connections is only going to grow.
If anyone has any recommendations on how to use it please offer them!

Hi
I'm a member of Linkedin although I really don't use it very much as yet. Not all groups need approval, infact I think the ICB is now an open group. Most groups approve within a couple of days. There are a lot of American groups though and to be honest the UK forums seem to better for information and the American ones aren't much help for referrals.
To remove yourself from a group go to "Your Groups" via the Groups Tab - next to the title Groups you've joined click on the little blue word "reorder" - on the re-order screen there is a "member settings" link on the right - click on this and down at the bottom of the settings page is a "leave group" button.

I've just joined as well. I suppose if I could link to some clients it might encourage some of their links to use me.
All this networking is a bit scary, but less nerve-wracking than canvassing.

Hi All,
I have just joined Linked In.
I wondered how you were all getting on with it and if anybody would like to 'link in' with me.
I have tried to find the ICB group but the only one I can find is the one in Australia, this might be due to me not using it correctly!
Anyway, if you want to add me my name is Katherine Clarke and my email is info@kclarkebookkeeping.co.uk or let me know your details and I'll add you.
Kind regards,
Kat.

Hellooooo I joined LinkedIn this morning as someone I know was talking about it but I have NO CLUE how it works. Now I've seen this thread I am off to have sneaky look at everyone elses profiles.... if I can work out how to find them....
If anyone would like to link to me I would be De-Light-Ed as Craid Revel Wotsit would say. I think I'm in as Alex Smith - Bookkeeping Leeds. Would make sense I guess! x

I've also joined LinkedIn in the last few days, and I have tried to add some of you to my network - others of you don't give your names on this forum so I'll have to spend some more time looking through your websites for your details! It's all part of the networking process....
