Can I get a practice licence??

Hi,
I am a MICB and I am just waiting for my level II computerised exam result (I should get it within the next three weeks).

This is probably a silly question to ask but... would I be able to get a practice licence just being a MICB or do I have to pass my computerised exam first?? The reason why I ask is because obviously I need to get my PI insurance in order to get the practice licence granted and to get an insurance I will need to state the trading date etc...

I would be ever so grateful if somebody could answer the question...  Three weeks may not be long for some of you but it certainly is a long time for me especially when I am itchng to get my own little business started!   Smile

Thank you.

Hi Lisa,  I think the short answer is yes.

On the 12 May I passed my manual level II. I am just finishing off my computerised part and will be sending in my exam shortly. I phoned the ICB and they immediately sent out the practice licence pack. I took out the PI insurance via Trafalgar and filled in the form.  Trading Date I think I put a few days ahead and the skills I was offereing I just ticked the ones I could offer now i.e for level II manual. It is easy on line.

I posted the Practice License form on Friday and it was all processed today and now today it says my status is practice licence.see left <-- Laughing  (THANK ICB FOR BEING QUICK AND EFFICIENT - just need my number). I obviuosly cannot offer computer services yet and in fact have offered no services. It is just one of the steps you have to go through to start the business. I am concentrating on my web page for now while doing my computerised and level III.

Exciting isn't it Lisa? I shoud have done the ICB training years ago.

Good luck with your business plans.
Clare

Hi Lisa

I'm also in the same position - waiting for my Level II computerised results to come through.  But I've got my practice license and PI and started effective 1 May although I don't have clients yet.  I'm advertising the manual service now, but will promote the computerised service just as soon as those results come trhough.  Like you, I just had itchy feet to get going and didn't want to delay it until after the computerised results.

Good luck...!!

Hi,
Thank you all for your comments, it is a great relief to know I can apply for my PI and practice licence.

Just one other thing... how easily is it to get my skills details updated within Trafalgar and ICB once I have my insurance and licence? Like in this instance, I will only be able offer manual level III for now and once I have passed my computerised level II I will need to get my details updated, won't I? So, how does that work?

It certainly is very exciting, Clare, but very daunting at the moment especially when you’re trying to get yourself organised by choosing/obtaining software, a company name, logo, registering the company etc...  I’ve got a little notepad beside my bed, so if I think of anything I quickly jot it down otherwise I can’t sleep!!  Ha ha! What I am like, eh?! Laughing

Do you need to tell them?
They only insure you for what you are qualified to do. So if you pass higher qualifications you would automatically be covered for this new work. At least that's my thinking. I don't think when I was filling out my application I was asked what work I was qualified and not qualified to do.
