Hi Stephen
Your email sounds a lonely one. Have just moved up to the North East(Newcastle actually) so just finding my way.Am just about to sit the computerised bookkeeping exam although already done up to and including manual level 3. Would like to obtain my members in practice licence very soon.Would be interested in your experience re the latter.
The area seems a bit thin on the ground re members getting involved especially as you view what happens down south.
Hope this can be changed.Smile
I have already had a lengthy career in the chemical industry so looking for a new challenge before its too late.
Hope to hear from you.
Regards

Mike

HI Mike,
Thank you for your reply. Like you said there doesn't seem to be much happening in the North East i was just seeing who is about.
I am currently doing level 3 manual and then i will go on to do the level 3 computerised.
I have found it a struggle to find clients as most of the people i speak to have the attitude of why should i pay you to do something that i can get done for free from my wife/girlfriend or someone else .
It may be easier finding clients in Newcastle as there are more businesses and opportunities there but i would say be wary of paying a lot of money for advertising as not all of it works and the work that i have had has come from free advertising and word of mouth.

If you need anything jast ask
Stephen

Hi Michael
Thank you for your reply like i said if i can be of any help to you just let me know.

Keith,
Hi I too had hoped to leave my full time job and concentrate on my bookkeeping business full time but as yet  this is not possible.
I am sure that you will get more clients soon it just seems like it takes forever . Be careful not to fall into the trap of spending loads on advertising as in my experience it doesn't work i have found that the free adverts and word of mouth have worked best for me.

Hope things pick up for you soon if i can be of any help just let me know

Morning people,

Having been stuck in a dead end public sector job for far too long I'm having a go at making a career change too. Got my practice licence.

Clients have been hard to find, but I cant help thinking that with the current economic climate being as it is, more people will be looking to use their own initiative and become self-employed. Its a matter of finding these people and helping them manage their business finances whilst they can focus moreso on the service they need to give to their new customers.

Have any of you had a look at The Mussel Club?    www.themusselclub.com

A lot of big businesses are connected to this but there are some smaller ones you can advertise yourself to for free also.

Cheers

Carl

Morning All

Like many of you above, I am planning on leaving my job early next year to go solo.  I'm ACCA and AAT qualified but going down the ICB route to obtain my licence.  Due to sit Level II papers in the next few weeks.

I've been trying to do a little market research on what my competitors are charging, but so far I'm not have any luck.  Have you been able to obtain anything, and if so, what seems to be the going rate round here?  What and how are you planning to charge?

Jo

Hi
My name is Lisa I am currently a student in Hampshire studying Manual bookkeeping, at the moment I attend the Fareham branch meetings. Due to a chage to my husbands carear in the Royal Navy we are relocating back to my home town of Sunderland, I am trying to find out about branch meetings in the locality or as close as is reasonably possible.  We will be moving in the school summer holidays (hopefully I will be well on my way to my level 3).  Also I am trying to make some contacts to start doing some work from the September time.  I have been doing some clubs and a charities books at the moment.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Lisa
