Sage terminology for Director' NI

I'm trying to do the Creative Remedies Mock on 12pay.

It asks me to set up 2 directors, one paying NI using the Table method and 1 the exact % method.

12pay has the following options:

you tick the director box, then enter the date the person became a director (not given, so I assumed date of joining),  then you can either allow the software to apply the directors NI calc (cumulative basis)

or

tick a box "ignore director", which overrides the cumulative calculation until the final period of the year when it looks at the annual period.

At least this is what I think 12 pay is doing.

I've trawlled through the Sage instants manual and info manual calculations plus HMRC site but can't work out which option to pick to get "table method" in Sage.

Also, the employee details reports just sage "director" with 12pay, whereas the Sage reports specifiy which method, so will I lose marks for this.....

can anyone advise me on this?

I may yet have to install sage trial 2010/11 and try the mock for that, but I don't really want to use Sage payroll, I find it far more complicated.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would really appreciate it, I tried to install my trial verison of Sage tonight but now find I have a defective copy which will not install. I bought it end of Oct so doubt I can return it now, plus I want to keep the workbooks and want to book the exam this week... so I am stuck with using 12pay (which I really like, just not sure about terminology).

thanks

On my sage (I'm not using instant) when I set the employee to Director, I have 2 choices Director or Director (table method) in the employment tab director status box.
Does this help?

In case anyone else has the same problem in the future:

the use of "table method" is terminology specific to sage only, Sage calcs are based on HMRC tables, wherease most software, including HMRC's own payroll software use the exact % method. In Sage, "table method" for directors means the same method used for regular employees.

To get the "table" method in 12pay, you need to check the "ignore director" box. This treats the director as a regular employee until the final period of the tax year, when it then looks at cumulative earnings and adjusts the amount for the final period accordingly.
