Hi,

Just a quick question about local events really.
What goes on at the events?
Is there any events held mear the middlesborough area? or where is the nearest one?
Would they Benefit students to attend them ?

(ok it was a quick few questions :D )

Thanks

Hi Anthea,

Branch meetings are informal networking events orgainised by members for members, designed to help build up a support network of local bookkeepers in your region. The content of each meeting is varied, ranging from guest speakers delivering technical lectures from local organisations, to general Q&A sessions. Both students and qualified members are welcome to attend.

The most important thing to remember, is that these meetings are in place to help you. So whether you are fairly new to the field and just want help with your studies, or you are an established bookkeeper  looking to network, there is always something to take away from these meetings. Bookkeeping can be a fairly lonely job and sometimes it's just nice to see some friendly faces.

The closest branch to Middlesbrough is in Jarrow, Tyne & Wear. If you are interested in attending, the next meeting is taking place tomorrow, Wednesday 13th June, at the Jarrow Civic Hall. If you would like more information, please click on the link below.

If you have any further questions, please give me a call on 0845 060 2345.

Take Care

Just a quick note to say that we are looking for a local organiser/branch chair for the North Yorks area which could fill the gap between Leeds and Jarrow. Any members interested in helping to develop our regional network please contact me at k.bell@talk21.com

Unsure how to approach any meetings I attend, especially my first one, which I intend to do in the very near future. I want advice, help, guidance and general information, as a newly qualified bookkeeper, on how to go about setting up. What steps to take. Will I find the information I am looking for or is it a ''set subject'' meeting? ie Tax. Payroll. Pensions etc etc? I'm hoping that this applies to ALL meetings I attend, where I can feel comfortable asking any questions, building friendships and coming away feeling I have gained valuable knowledge and insights into the industry.

 Hi Ken

Just spotted your post on local meetings and would just like to say that i'm certain you'd be made to feel most welcome at the North East branch meetings.

To introduce myself, i'm Susan Lang and am currently Branch Chair for the Tyne & Wear Branch.  We regularly meet around the last Wednesday of the month usually at the Holiday Inn just off the A1M at Washington.  The group was 'restarted' in March 14 and we have since grown to a regular group of attendees and are really pleased to see new faces every month too.

Our topics vary - our meeting tonight is on Auto-Enrolment and we have a presentation from a representative of NOW Pensions and then we'll have time after his presentation to have a discussion as a group on how it will effect us all in our practices, jobs or as students in our studies.

Our next event April is looking at Time Management and we have a fantastic presenter coming along from a local business. Following that we have a Sage Tour event planned with the North Yorkshire Branch; speakers on Self Assessment; Training providers, Software providers plus we are always open to suggestions from members on topics that they would be interested in hearing.

If you'd like to take a look at the Events page on the ICB Website this will show you the next couple of meetings, dates and information on the speakers, but please feel free to keep in touch via the forum.

We also have a facebook page which is regularly updated on the events too and we also use it to share the slides from events and minutes of meetings, etc  https://www.facebook.com/groups/ICBNEMembers/ If you click the link and send a request to join i'll add you in.

It would be great to see you at an event soon, but meanwhile if you have any questions feel free to get in touch, via ICB, email or the facebook page?

Kind Regards

Susan

Hello Susan and everyone else in the NE,

I'm a newly registered student to the ICB who is Jarrow based and I'm looking to get to a few branch meetings. I've requested to join the Facebook Group and had a look at the events but can't see any upcoming for Tyneside. Do you know when the next one will be held for the NE branch?

Many thanks

Dean

Thanks for the information Sheila much appreciated.

Susan - Thanks for the FB and meeting info. I was booked in to come and looking forward to getting to meet a few people locally but unfortuntately something within the family came up last minute and I had to miss it. I will be keeping an eye out for the next one so I will make a point of saying hello. I will PM you my emili address so that you can add me to your FB group. I've just mastered how to get forum updates to posts so I shouldn't take as long replying in future. Smile

Thanks again.

Dean
