hiccup with vat

Hi there I dont know if anyone can help. I do the accounts for a Village Stores. Every day we have the daily till totals splitting the vat, which is fine, but recently the Till crashed. We had to get a new till, which is now up and running but for the first few days the assistants couldnt get all the shop items scanned into the till in time, so for a short few days the totals just show totals and very little Vat e.g 3000.00 in total and 25.00 for VAT  Which is definitely incorrect. Is it ok to estimate for those days or would that cause more problems. It us usually about a third that is Vatable but not exactly. Any help would be much appreciated, as I dont want to do the wrong thing here Thanks again Trish.

I would estimate the VAT for such a short period ,aking sure that your client is aware of this and happy for this to be done.

Kind regards

Hi Ady Thanks for your response. Yes it seemed the best way but I thought i  would just see what other members thought. I  was asked to guesstimate it so I believe I would be pretty close on the figures. Will double check with  accountant also just so that he knows what has been done when he gets the figures at year end. Our year end has only just happened, so he wouldnt see it till next year anyway, but its just that I like to be on the good side of the Vatman whenever possible. Thanks again Trish.
