At the branch meeting last night it was suggested that we have a facebook page dedicated to our branch to create another forum for communicating with our branch members.  Therefore I have set up a group called Institute of Certified Bookkeepers - North Yorks.

Unfortunately because I am not 'friends' with any of you I am unable to invite you to join the group, so please can you spend a couple of minutes finding the group and click on 'join'.

There must be lots of bookkeepers out there in North Yorkshire (and defectors from West Yorkshire too!) who might benefit from this group.  Please spread the word so we can get this group up and running.

Many thanks

Debbie

Hi Debbie

I've had a search for the group, but couldn't find it either on the app on my phone or on the actual FB website... Would it be possible for me to connect with you on fb so I can join the group (I know fb is a personal site so feel free to 'unfriend' the connection once I have joined the group!) or is there some other way to find it?

Many thanks

Hi Aimee

That's interesting - I haven't set up a group before so didn't know that was the case.  Therefore I think the only way to do it is for everyone to become one of my friends (no need to unfriend afterwards unless you want to) and then I can invite you to join.

You will recognise me by my profile picture of my husband and I on our wedding day (aah...it was our silver wedding anniversary last month!)

Kind regards

This is goingt o prove harder than I thought.... none of us use our full names on the forum.  So to find me this is the link to my profile:

https://www.facebook.com/debbie.roe.92

If you are prepared to do so, can other branch members leave their profile addresses here (found in the search bar on facebook when you are on your own page) so that we can all find each other.

Thanks

Hi Debbie,

Well done on setting the group up. Great photo :)

I have been notified I have been added to the 'closed' group. Is this why you can't find it when you search?

I will ask the ICB if they can help a little more with marketing our branch to all members in the area.

Thanks Debbie,

Catherine

Hi Catherine

I set it up as 'closed' because I noticed that the London branch were a closed group.  Do you think that it needs to be closed, as more people would find it if it were an open group.  I can just alter the settings.  Perhaps in the early days we should keep it open, and then once posts start getting remotely controversial or confidential we could change it back to closed.

What do you, and others, think?

Hi Debbie

Personally I prefer it to be a 'closed' group as I have all manner of friends, contacts, and clients on my Facebook friends list and do not necessarily want all of them seeing particular ICB posts.  This is especially true if the FB group provides a forum for discussing issues, experiences, and asking questions etc - it may look unprofessional for clients to see certain questions being asked in the group (e.g. when asking for advice) and would deter me from posting in the group altogether.  Perhaps instead a link to the group could be added to the ICB email mailshot that branch members receive?

I'm not an expert on Facebook and perhaps my fears are unfounded if posts won't actually be seen by non-members of the group. It certainly would make it easier for new members to find the group initially if the group settings were 'open'.

What do you think?
