Is ICB a recognised qualification ?

The ICB is a global 'brand' whos structure is aimed at creating the most highly qualified bookkeepers.  The expected learning methods are pricipally based around inexpensive home learning (college/day release courses cost vastly more).  Apparently this does reflect on the Ofqual status as they required a more college lead approach, that and our exam levels don't exactly match the 'competitions' so it is harder to be directly compared... that is my understanding of the ICB's choice not to apply for Ofqual status.  They didn't like the hoops one had to jump through or the enforced allignment of syllibii.  I might not be entirely correct, I'm sure others will correct me in that case Smile

While it is true that at the moment there are a high percentage of members in self employment there is a growing market in the PAYE sector and we were informed at the ICB conference last month, of an initiative currently in the pipeline to get one of the specialist financial empoyment agencies to recognise out acreditations and become a more direct conduit to market for our members.

Hopefully that answers your questions.  If it rasies more, keep asking!

Mike Foster in one of his forum posts mentioned negotiations with Hays Recruitment.

Have a look at this post (from mid Oct) :-

Mike also said he hoped the next newsletter would hopefully sent out the following week !!!!!

There were  also other posts on qualification recognition but cant find them at the moment.

Hi Mike

I notice in 2011 you were thinking of joining the ICB.  I take it you joined the IAB or something similiar. We all work together so I hope every thing is going well for you and you managed to find a qualification that suited you.

"I am unemployed at the moment and looking to doing a book keeping qualification to improve my employment chances. However as you can both appreciate the costs of courses are quite restrictive and I am trying to do the basics on my own. Then I hope to join the ICB."

ICB is not on offqual.  Most members do know this as it is discussed at the summits and we have certainly discussed it many times in the Scottish Branch.

Hi Mike

I am not sure where you are based but they are lot of grants around for example mature students and in Scotland some of the councils provide learning grants.

I am not sure if you are still unemployed but I notice it mentions on the Website there is 25% I think off fees if you are on benefits.  I am not 100% on this as I am no longer studing so I do not keep up to date with that side.

Even just to help with your decision if you ring them directly.   Regardless of what body you decide to join ,  I personally think for work and going forward education is the way to go.   I am alwalys doing courses every year and I am a fellow.
