New syllabus Level III computerised - not for profit organisations - Sage instant accounts

Hi

I am studying at home using Kaplan study texts and Sage instant accounts 2014.

So far all has been fine, Sage instant accounts worked for level II computerised exam perfectly.

However, I have just turned to the last chapter in the Level III computerised study text which covers 'not for profit organisations'.  The text says it is using the defalt chart of accounts for not for profit organisations in Sage instant accounts (albeit a slightly older version than I'm using).

After having just completed the chapter on partnerships, I went to maintenance to rebuild the data files back to blank and change the type of organisation, and to my dismay, not for profit isn't listed.  I have sole trader, company, partnership, and use my own chart of accounts?

Can anyone point me in the right direction (if there is one) to set up a new not for profit organisation?

Many thanks,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I have Sage Instants Plus 2012 and can rebuild that so I would expect you to be able to rebuild Sage Instants 2014.

The Chart of Accounts will be in Sage as 'Charities and other non-profit organisations'.

Hi Marilyn,

My software is not the 'plus' version.  Will this make a difference? I thought perhaps the plus just related to number of users?

When I rebuild the data, the option of type of business is definately not including charities.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it seems to have worked ok when I changed from sole trader to partnership. Do you know if there is some other way of accessing the type of businesses that are set up on the software?

Many thanks,

Sarah

Good Afternoon Sarah

Wow what a pain - Ideal Schools do a Sage Instant accounts option for the complete ICB awards - so it must be possible. I am sure Brian will be along soon and can shed some light on this !!!

You may have to choose the Sole Trader option and then edit the chart of accounts to accommodate the required nominal codes from the Kaplan books (ie the income codes).

I think if Sage have removed it from the 2014 version (what off the 2015 version) its a bit poor - and just demonstrates their dominate market share and just stuff everyone and put prices up at the drop off a hat !!!!!

Regards

Trevor

Thank you for your replies.

The lack of any information on google or other posts on this forum makes me think perhaps I didn't look properly?  I think I will try again with a fresh head tomorrow.  (I'm half way through a practice assessment right now, so can't immediately check this out).

I notice in the Kaplan study text, the charity is listed right at the top of types of business.  So I'm hoping maybe I was 'scrolled down' and missing the top of the list?  (I can hope)!

Otherwise, yes I will have to use the sole trader option and amend accordingly.

Many thanks,

Sarah

Hi Sarah

I studied by the same method and used Sage Instant Accounts 2014. The option for not for profit eg charities was available so hopefully as you say, you were maybe scrolled down the screen and missed it.

Good luck

Hi Sarah,

This is a pain but in the standard copies of Sage Instant the not for profit option was only in the 2013 version of the software....in error, as I was told when querying this with Sage last year. This is a an inconvenience but ICB wil be aware of certain software limitations and, as Trevor has indicated, you will need to amend the nominal code structure so that, for eample, Accumulated Fund is listed rater than Profit & Loss. In the main you'll be able to use the Sole Trader layout using the structure provided, with just a few adjustments.

Good luck Smile

Hi Sarah

My apologies, I must have been confused with what was written in the Kaplan book and thought it was in the program. Brian has obviously come across this before so knows what he is talking about.

Hope you manage to sort it out.

Hi Sarah,

If you are unable to rebuild for charities:

Please email me and I will send you the Charity Chart of Accounts List if you need it -

Thank you for all your responses to my problem.

I have tried again this morning, and the charities chart of accounts is definately not there.  Very frustrating, but at least I can see it's not just me going mad!

This is the first time I've used the forum and it has been really helpful. Thank you for taking the time to help.

Hi Sarah

I've just come across the same problem as you with the missing 'Not for Profit' in Sage Instant accounts - so frustrating as I was getting on fine till now!

Did you manage to sort it out by amending the Sole Trader Chart of Accounts as recommended?

Marilyn - Would you mind sending me a copy of the Charity Chart of Accounts list?  think this would really help save me time trying to work out what goes where..... my email is norgettplant@gmail.com

Many Thanks

Lucy
