Membership upgrade confusion??

Hi How is everyone getting on? Has anyone else had a phone call from ICB about membership registration?

I had a call a couple of days ago and I was told that if I pass my level 3 computerised (old syllabus) so that i would be eligible for MICB status, that i would have to pay/upgrade to MICB membership before the end of june or else I will have to sit 2 motre exams from the new syllabus in order to upgrade???  Currently I am only using a student mambership, not AICB as I do not really need the membership in my current employment, just the qualification. I do not intend to set up my own bookeeping company at the moment and I do not intend to use the letters after my name, therefore I did not really want to upgrade to MICB membership, but at some point in the future I may want or need to. But I think now that I will have to in order that I do not have to sit further exams? Am I the only person slightly confused by this, and  does it seem like the ICB are milking this change of syllabus a little. They extended the time in which to sit and pass the old levels of study and are now saying "pay up for a full more expensive membership by the end of june or you will have to pay and sit more exams to get the same membership at a later date!" So frustrated with how unorganised this whole switch of syllabus has been and how much stress it has caused. Surely I am not the only one??? Please tell me I am not on my own in feeling like this??

Hi Carrie,

Thank you for your time this afternoon, I am glad I was able to clear up any confusion.

As discussed, once you have passed your Level III (old syllabus), there is no deadline for you to upgrade to MICB.

We are calling all students who have completed Levels I and II (old syllabus) and inviting them to upgrade before the end of June, often for a pro rata upgrade fee to ensure they do not lose time on their student subscription, as this is the date that we are upgrading our Associate Members.

As discussed in previous forum posts, those who choose to remain as a student after the 30th June, will be transferred over to the new syllabus and given exemptions from papers BA4 and BA7, they will have to take papers BA5 and BA6 to achieve the Level III Certificate.

We extended the examination deadline purely because, in some areas, Pearson Vue was struggling to accomodate the large demand for examination sittings.

Kind regards,

Lily Wilson

Hi,

Just to clarify, do I need to pass my level 3 manual by June ? I was told that I need to pass by today?

Is this not the case. I'm asking because I need to resit :(

Hi Hays, are you studying the old syllabus? My understanding is that the Level 3 manual (old syllabus) needed to be booked by the end of march and passed by the end of june. Therfore if you have failed after the end of march and do not have another exam booked in then I think you have to switch to the new syllabus in order to continue your study. I may be wrong so double check, but that was my understanding.

Hi All

Can anyone tell me what the benefit would be to upgrade membership from student to affiliate ?? Is it just for the letters after your name. As I am still studying hopefully to get to associate I thought I would just wait until I get there then upgrade is there anything I am missing here ? I am on new syllabus. Any info appreciated

Thanks chaps x

Hi Hayley, awww im sorry to hear that. Unfotunately I have no experience of the new syllabus or its format so I can not comment on its content or the exams for it.

Nassor - As far as I am aware you need to apply for the practise license seperately.

Hi Mandy, I have stayed as a student membership throught my studies (old syllabus). I think if you wish to practise once you are qualified to AICB and wish to use your staus on paperwork etc then you must upgrade. I do not actually need the membership, just the qualifications so it is cheaper for me to continue on a student membership. Although I believe once you are fully qualified if you do not renew your membership student, AICB or MICB, for a period of 2 years then you will probably have to sit exams in order to register for your membership. So this is worth bearing in mind. Hope this helps :)
