Take old syllabus exam

Hi,

I started studying ICB level III manual bookkeeping over 18 months ago. I can see that people on here are talking about practicing for the "old syllabus", so I was wondering if there was a possibility of taking the the level III manual paper rather than 3 exams requiring a computerised section.

I have attempted to take paper BA4 twice but something has gone wrong when taking the computerised section on both occasions, either with sage, sage not allowing me to do what I want, and a seemingly illogical/not well written question; and I don't even know if I can ask for advice on certain things because it relates to the exam.

Many thanks

Hi,

I just noticed that no one has replied to your post. I am not an expert but as far as I am aware you can no longer sit the old syllabus exams. The old syllabus papers that other students are talking about will finish on the last day of this month. The Old syllabus level 3 manual had to be sat and paased byt the end of march 2015 and the computerised section has to be sat and passed by the end of this month. I have literally just submiited my computerised exma as i was studying the old syllabus.

Are you doing self study? I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with the new syllabus exams. I wish I could help. I am not sure on how strict the rules are? If you know you are struggling with a specific area i.e depreciation, shares, etc then you could ask a generalised question about that area? I know you are not allowed to disclose the exam content so dont include specific data, but I am sure if you ask a question about a specific subject then that would be allowed? But dont take my word for it lol!

Hope this helps :)

Good Luck

Hi MJC_1988

I too have just submitted my old syllabus level 3 so not completely able to answer.....You now need to stick with the new structure for Level III manual and Computerised as the Old Syllabus deadline for manual exams has passed and Computerised, to start the exam is tomorrow - you'd then have 14 days to submit it.

I believe you can either email or request a call from an examiner for advice and also I think there is a report you can ask for (not sure if this is relevant, but may cost £10, I saw on here once?)

I don't know what the newer syllabus is like, but old level 3 manual is hard.  I failed first time - but with some good advice and a load of mock papers to practice (put a post on here to request some and kind members will email some) you'll get there.  One day it will all come together, it gets expensive though doesn't it :-(

Good luck - do you have a training provider?  If so, call them.  If not, call ICB.  They are really helpful.

Emi.

Thank you for the kind replies.

I don't recall receiving any notice from the ICB on this but I'm not going to readily accuse them of not sending me anything.

I will post a couple of questions in the forum when I have more time and will just have to be as subtle as possible.

So where do you suggest I go from here? Is there anything particularly new on the new syllabus, and should I take a computerised 'level III' course? I would have thought that if you'd used Sage (or other accounts software) thoroughly before you should just be able to transfer information into the program easily enough.

Also with that in mind should I update my software? I'm currently using Sage Instant 2010 and this may be part of my troubles?

I hoping the answer is "no" to all of these because it's bad enough I'm having to throw money at retaking exams that I really should be passing.

Thanks again

I did BA4 using sage instant 2009, so its unlkely a software problem. I found you have to be careful when reading the question as a slight change from what you expect can be a problem.
