Hello Everybody,

I have relocated up to Glasgow from London. I wanted to ask advice on pay rates for freelance senior bookkeeping work, by senior bookkeeping work I mean the usual stuff plus management accounting, cash flow management, business plans, basically everything except CT comps.

I was earning £19-£22 p/h in London and expected a drop but I have just been informed by an Accountant that £12 is the norm up here for a senior bookkeeper !!! can this be true ???

I would really appreciate any advice that you can give.

Thanks so much

Why not look at value based pricing rather than a rate per hour, you will always achieve a better rate of pay in the long run, and the client knows exactly how much the job will cost

If you are looking to charge an hourly rate, certainly do not undersell yourself!  £12/hour is a pitifull amount and wouldn't even cover your costs.  I would say stick to your guns and carry on charging what you charged in London as that does not seem like an 'out of the ordinary' amount to me.  Either that or, as someone else has mentioned, look at charging a fixed fee based on valued pricing instead.
