I can see that the payroll exam is a do it at home one, but I can't see which format it takes.

i think it is un-timed? But do you answer some questions online and submit some reports? 

Can you log in and out? What time limit is imposed for completion?

I've just recently completed this one and waiting for results now.

The exam is timed but you have 24 hours to complete and is in two parts, the first is online questions then the second is downloaded and completed on your payroll software.

You then upload the reports you save based on the tasks given in the download and finish the exam.

You can log in/out as much as you want and can check/change the answers in the first section before submitting as long as it's still in the 24 hours.
