Marriage Allowance

Hi

I just wanted to double check my understanding of the 10% transferable personal allowance for married couples, in relation to pension income (not earned income). I am completing the self assessment for a client in his 70's. The majority of his personal allowance is taken up with pension income received and then he earns a little on top of that via self employment. His wife only receives her state pension, can we apply for the 10% to be transferred from Mrs to Mr?

Many thanks in advance Smile

Hi,

I did this a couple of months ago for couple in same situation and it was accepted.

The transferror can apply online (I did it for the lady but in her presence as she is a friend not a client) and you can backdate for last year at the same time.

Providing they put an email address on application they will receive an email stating if it has been successful or not.

In my case because the husband had already processed his tax return the email stated a cheque would be sent.
