Hi,

I am currently studying Level 2 and have got to the computised section and have become aware that I need to have access to a sage product to complete the assessment.

I have looked but there are several options and opinions on which is best, that it is getting confusing.  Work are paying for my qualification however they use Quickbooks.

I am looking for the cheapest option but at  the same time dont want to suddenly find the one I have signed up to is not good enough for my studies.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Laura

Laura

I've just sent off my B2 computerised section reports for marking. Using Sage Instant I was able to produce all the necessary reports. One advantage of using Sage is that the reports match exactly with my preparation material (published by Kaplan). Even better, they match exactly with those produced by the mock exams so I was confident I was producing what was required when I did the live exam.

It takes a lot of time and frustration to find your way around Sage as a company, to buy it and get it installed, and Sage the software package. It took me weeks to get Sage installed and to find my way around (but less than a week in preparing and doing the mocks and the live exam!). I'm glad I persevered, mainly because I know the reports I sent in are what is required.

All the best on the assessment

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your response.  This may be a silly question but with Sage Instant is that a software package without any subscription?

Thanks

Hello Laura,

You have to buy Sage Instant. You get a perpetual licence, which cost me about £114 when I bought it at amazon.co.uk. The version I bought was downloaded rather than being provided on a CD. When I need to download again later, I log into my amazon account to download it from ny "Software Library." Sage provide you with an activation code to start the software off.

The £114 was a one-off payment. There isn't any monthly or annual subscription to pay after that.

Having said that, I have just read that Sage Instant 2014, the one used in the ICB material, was discontinued last April. You would need to buy the replacement, which is called Sage 50 Accounts Essentials. The price is £118.80. Here is the URL:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sage-50-Accounts-Essentials-Download/dp/B01CRMYGB2/ref=sr_1_2?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1501640531&sr=1-2&keywords=sage+50+instant

The ICB strongly recommend you do the mock exams. I very much agree with them, especially for this exam. It's yet more money for you to pay but it will help you to pass.

Finally, you will need this software for this exam at Level II and also the first exam at Level III. I haven't seen any exams after those that require you to use a computer package.

Yes, Sharron, looking at it I'm pretty sure that's the one. My only doubt is why it is so much cheaper. This is what they say on amazon.co.uk Sage 50 Accounts Essentials is the new name for Sage Instant Accounts, but this is more than just a name change. It's packed full of simple yet brilliant ways to manage cash flow, VAT, quotes and invoices. Plus you can work with your accountant and access your accounts information anytime, anywhere with Sage Drive. Together with the name change the product is packed full of improvements to help with daily tasks, alongside new functionality to make managing business even easier Best wishes on the exam. I have to do BA7 to finish Level III at a centre and then afterwards use my Sage package again for BA8 at Level IV. After that I won't have to use Sage anymore, unless I'm well paid to do so. Robert
