Good morning

I use Sage Line 50 Accounts for all my clients, I have used Sage for 15 years and I find Sage excellent, one of my clients as tried a free copy of Xero and he was wanting me to transfer his accounts to Xero.  Is this possible, could anyone give me the pros and cons of Xero and any recommendations between Sage and Xero.

Many thanks

Chris

Of the two, I definitely prefer Xero - I find Sage to be a bit clunky and old-fashioned by comparison.

As your client has found, Xero does offer a free trial and they have plenty of online help guides, so my recommendation is to sign up for a free trial yourself and give it a go.

As for converting the data I know it is possible, I think there are some companies out there that will do it (for a fee). When I transferred my companies over, I took the opportunity to have a clean up of the records and started afresh with just the opening balances and kept sage around for historical reference if needed.

I think the main issue with Xero is the lack of phone support - they do have email support which, while pretty good, is quite slow - it can take up to a day to get a reply!

Thank you very much for your help.

Much appreciated.

Hi Chris

Alternatively you can pull off a trial balance from Sage and put the totals in as 'Conversion Balances' in Xero rather than transfering all the individual transactions over to Xero

Chris I have a guide if interested which gives you some tips on what to consider before and after conversion.  Move My Books is great but not if you are using multi currency or tracking departments in Sage.  Also if you don't have those considerations then just ensure the data is very clean before doing the conversion.  I am a Xero Trainer so if you need any help or have any questions let me know.
