Inside Facebook Channel 4 Dispatches

As bookkeepers should we be so keen to advertise on Facebook.   As business should we consider our Social Footprint and Data responsiiblity?

As Business woman and a parent   I am deeply disturbed about Channel 4 Dispatches inside Facebook - promoting child abuse content and refusing to take it down even at the request of NSPCC.

I totally support Retail Excellence a body in Ireland who represent retail in Ireland now suspending their partnership with Facebook.

A qoute from RTE and Retail Excellence

"Based on the revelations from Channel 4 Dispatches documentary last evening, we have decided to suspend our partnership with Facebook until further notice," the group's chief executive Lorraine Higgins said.

"As a representative body which promotes standards of excellence amongst retailers it would be wrong for us to continue our partnership where they have fallen short," Lorraine Higgins said.

"On that basis, we will not be working with Facebook until we are satisfied their policies have been overhauled regarding the posting of violent and abusive content for commercial gain," she added.

other points to consider about Facebook

1) Is it safe to have a Facebook App on your business computer.  You should consider all the private client information you hold on your clients as they have acknowledge they pull data even if you do not sign up.

Wow over 200 views and no comment about a business platform loads of bookkkeepers use to advertise that is now on record supporting child abuse.   See The News and Chanel 4 #insideFacebook.

I actual feel dispair.

If this had been any other company then FACEBOOK, The UK population would have boycotted the company.   How the world has changed and not for the better.

As a ICB member all posts that are facebook branches should be on the ICB forum or website as well.   It is not fair to make members become a FACEBOOK Member to know what is going on in their branch.   I know loads of members who are not informed because they will not sign up to FACEBOOK.

Could not agree with you more Sarah!

I detest Facebook with a passion. I will never ever use it for my business, its a "social" platform and not a "business" platform.

I have said this before and I will say it again, ICB needs to invest in their website, not facebook. I would have thought it would be in their interest to engage members on the ICB website rather than a third party unregulated platform. ICB loves to regulate members but not itself.

Hi Sarah

I also agree with you 100% I have never and will never use Facebook for business.  I only ever used it for personal use back in the very early days but it didnt take me long to find out this platform wasn't for me.  I have signed up to various business mentoring groups etc in the past and had to leave as most of the support and interaction was via a "Closed" Facebook forum.  I did notice ICB were looking for some Local Branch Meeting Chairs recently but again I had to rule this out as I refuse to sign up to FB.  My feelings have aways been the same even before the documentary you mention was even aired.  I think people feel they are losing out by not being on FB , my business lends itself more to Linkedin (very professional) and Twitter.  I actualy contacted my local ICB Branch via this forum and was disappointed that I did not to get one reply ..........

How very apt your comment is as I am currently in a dispute with ICB regarding membership renewal. I received a reply to my email on 19 July saying someone from higher authority would get back to me - Hello? still waiting?

That aside - to get back to the main topic - would never use Facebook for anything!

Hi MM

I think you must have misinterpreted my post.  I dont have an issue with ICB at all, I wouldnt expect ICB Head Office to reply to my post regarding the Branch Meetings it should be the Branch Chair or a rep.  My post was giving my thoughts on FB when used for business

Regards

Heather

Hi Heather,

I was not responding to your post hence the reason I included the comment from Vip Patel of accountsforme.
