Coronavirus grants for a business not paying business rates

This is probably a fruitless question... but here goes anyway. I currently have a client, an established limited company paying corporation tax. However, the company is currently based in the owner's home and not registered for business rates. Reading around, it seems all the coronavirus business grants that the government is currently offering are only available to businesses based in rateable properties. Is this correct or is there any support (excluding loans) to ltd companies registered in the owner's home?

Hello,

My understanding is that if there is no actual premesis, only their homes, then the grant does not apply.

As a LTD company the only help I believe is availabe is to furlough the directors, this can be done if they are paid PAYE and if they are not carrying out any revenue generating work ATM due to Covid19.

Hope that helps

Julia

You are correct, there is no government help.  If there are struggling and can not furlough it is work they look around for local business grants that may be able to help.

Hi Julia and Lucy

Many thanks for your replies -- much appreciated. Yes, I feared this was the case but thanks for confirming. The company has indeed furloughed one member of staff already but is still hanging on by its fingertips...

Best wishes, Gavin

If your clients are based in Scotland there are further hardship and resilience grants released by Scottish Goverment on Friday just gone.   See Scottish government website you cannot apply if you have received the 10k or 25k.  These are for businesses that were not covered by rates grants.  However it is first come first served.  It covers a freelancers scheme as well as IT , creative and public duty .  It is worth having a look.
