Small business and not a separate bank

Hello there,

Has anyone dealt with a small business that has expenses and a bank account that isnt strictly for the business so have to seperate things like broadband and income from the work from the rest of the outgoings and spouses income on the account? If I ask them to have a seperat account how then do I prove the things like broadband etc that come out of the joint account.

I would have a discussion with the client asking them to specify the % of personal use that joint costs like broadband incur, and ask them to confirm this in writing, perhaps by email.

If you are performing an actual bank reconciliation in software, then just allocate all the personal costs to drawings, and if you are on an hourly rate with them that the time taken to process all these personal transactions is actually costing them money. If on a set fee, then explain you will have to raise your set fee to reflect the increased time taken to account for all these additional transactions.

If you are not using software, and the volume of transactions is not too large, then you could ask the client to highlight all his business related expenditure, and perhaps collate this information on a spreadsheet, using someone like 123 for filing an MTD VAT Return, as this costs only £15 for the whole year.

Good morning everyone,  I'm a newly registered student having signed up with Ideal Schools but very disappointed Brian McVean from Ideal Schools can't be more reasonable. I signed up recently for the Icb courses and agreed a payment plan, I haven't managed to start yet as I've received devastating family news and have to quit my job to stay with my mother.  Brian from Ideal Schools responded immediately by refusing to cancel my course because he will incur costs? What costs? I haven't done anything,  it's distance learning!

I'm having to quit my job. I wish I was made more aware of Ideal Schools, money grabbing, unsympathetic approach. I've been told my payments will have to continue. I will take further advice and certainly won't be recommending Ideal Schools. I can only think things aren't going well for them as they can't cancel my course. I've read a few complaints about them.  Maybe they will consider cancellation if I'm on my death bed.

Once you have registered for the course and have made a transfer, you will not be able to get your money back. This is the pre-determined rule of all courses that are registered at the school. The reasons you say are hospital stays, for example, I don't think you will be reimbursed.
