Grab a sandwich and learn from the best! On the last Friday of each month, join our session led by either the ICB learning team, or one of our trusted training providers. The sessions will cover some of the fundamentals of bookkeeping – and vary with a deeper dive on more complex subjects. There will be an emphasis on practical skills that will enhance your everyday working life. These informal sessions are also an opportunity for you to pose your questions, and suggest future topics for further analysis.
March's session is: Appropriation of Earnings in Limited Companies
Join ICB's Director of Learning, Peter Stewart as he demonstrates to bookkeepers the critical process of managing and distributing profits within a limited company. He will explain the differences between profits and earnings, and explore how these earnings are distributed or appropriated. He’ll cover key topics including:
- Transfers to Reserves: Learn the importance of revenue and capital reserves, and how they impact a company’s financial stability.
- Dividends: Understand the distinction between ordinary and preference share dividends, and the accounting treatment involved.
- Practical Examples: We will walk through how to appropriately account for earnings, distribute dividends, and transfer to reserves, with real-life examples and practical insights.
